Zeigler Subaru of Merrillville once again supported Merrillville Community School Corporation's Salk Elementary School with a generous gift of $3,000 through its partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org.
Six teachers were chosen by building administration to share the donation, $500/each:
- Christine Zylstra, Art
- Lori Williams, 4th grade
- Helaine Basile, 1st grade
- Jan Andrews, Kindergarten
- Christine Kerr, 3rd grade
- Anna Bobbitt, 2nd grade
Principal Nicholas Petralia and Assistant Principal Tammy Rassbach nominated the six educators for what they do not only in school but after school hours as well: clubs, committees, sponsors, etc.
Some of the teachers already spent or had plans for their new funding.
"With my $500, I purchased a set of dry erase boards, multiplication games to continually reinforce mastery of facts, place value manipulatives, and rewards for my students working hard," said Williams. "Thank you!"
"Thank you so much for this amazing gift," said Zylstra. "Since many of my students enjoy working with clay, I will use you provided for air dry clay and acrylic paints and paint brushes. This will allow my third and fourth grade classes to work with a new medium."
Andrews said she would purchase supplies for activity stations for managed independent learning. Bobbitt said the donation helped to purchase new books for her classroom library.
