Congratulations to the MHS Choralteens

Congratulations to the 2020-2021 MHS Choralteens who competed for the first time in the ISSMA Fall Virtual Organizational contest on Saturday!

They received GOLD ratings from all three judges on their Advanced Vocal Jazz set which included New York State of Mind (featured soloists Makayla Jones, Jacob Vara, and Kennedy Halliburton) and Bridge Over Troubled Water (featured soloists Tyrese Cooper and Jayla Turner).

Although choir students have been granted access to Blended Learning twice a week, only 14 of the 30 registered for the class have attended in-person classes as we rehearsed these pieces since the beginning of October.

Learning contest repertoire is challenging enough long-distance, but preparing to compete as a large vocal ensemble with a group that you only see for an hour twice a week for three weeks before you had to record and submit is rather miraculous.

All three ISSMA judges commented on not only the talent of our singers, but noted their resilience (it is really difficult to sing well while masked) and their dedication to their Art and the safety of one another as they sang masked.
