Linda Zorich remembers the day she began her teaching career by walking into the building she once attended as a child.
Ms. Zorich attended Merrillville schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, returning to teach, a career already lasting 32 years.
During her career, she has taught kindergarten, first and second grades before becoming an instructional coach at Fieler Elementary School, her current position.
An instructional coach works one-on-one and in small groups with teachers, providing guidance, training, and other resources as needed. Together, they focus on practical strategies for engaging students, improving their learning, and improving student achievement.
Ms. Zorich said she enjoys the family atmosphere that is shown throughout the schools.
“Merrillville is a terrific school system,” she said. “Everyone cares for our students and goes far beyond for them.”
She says she continues to work here because “Merrillville School Corporation is always looking to the future to better our students and the teachers. It is a great place to teach!”
Ms. Zorich says she has no plans to retire yet because she enjoys her job and students.
