HiSET Testing
HiSET testing is held on-site at Merrillville High School on a biweekly basis, typically on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Students must sign up by Wednesday of the week prior to their chosen testing date. Please see the testing schedule below.
What to Bring & Know
- Bring a current, valid Indiana state-issued photo ID.
- Arrive by 4:30 PM. Plan to remain on-site until approximately 9:00 PM.
- Testing fees are due the night of testing:
- Initial test: $180
- Individual subject retest: $36 per subject
- Payment must be made in cash with the exact amount.
- No advance in-person payment is required.
- If you do not bring the required testing fee, you will not be able to test that evening and will need to reschedule for a later testing session.
- All testing fees are non-refundable.
Free HiSET Practice Tests
Free HiSET practice tests are available anytime through HiSET.org.
An optional Readiness Test is also available before registering for the HiSET exam. The Readiness Test is required only for students testing with a program voucher.
Please note: The Readiness Test is no longer offered in person.

To register for a testing date, bring a CURRENT, VALID Indiana state-issued Photo ID (e.g., Driver's License) and payment (cash only) to the Adult Education Office.
