Read to Succeed in English Classes

Reading Counts tests are also part of a student's English grade.

  • After the final day to test each trimester, English teachers will enter the Average Quiz Score into the grade book in a special category for Required Reading.
  • This grade will be determined only by tests taken during that trimester.
  • The Required Reading category will be 3% of the semester grade.  This may translate to 4% each grading period or 8% for one grading period.

Examples (all examples are for first trimester - 16 points):

Student A reported he was doing his project on It’s a Funny Kind of Story.  He earned an 80% on the quiz.  He also took an additional quiz and earned a 100%.  The teacher will enter 90% in the Required Reading category. This student also has more than 16 points and will receive an A for Required Reading on his report card.

Student B reported he was doing his project on The Giver.  He earned a 100% on the quiz and did not taken any other quizzes.  The teacher will enter 100% in the Required Reading category.  This student only has 9 points and will receive an F for Required Reading on his report card.

Student C reported he was doing his project on Divergent.    He earned a 20% on his first try and an 80% on his second try.  The teacher will enter 50% in the Required Reading category.  This student earned 22 points and will receive an A for Required Reading on his report card.
