Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  We hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready to start the school year.  We promise to work hard every day to give your child the best educational experience possible.

Our staff has been working throughout the summer planning and preparing to make 2019-2020 an incredible year for your child.  We have many exciting changes coming to Merrillville Intermediate School.

New Staff

We would like to welcome two new members to our Administrative Team:  Mr. Brett Wartman, Assistant Principal and Mrs. Nicole Laird, Dean of Students.   Mrs. Gina Eustace will be our new full-time Social Worker. We have added many new staff members, too, and look forward to you meeting everyone at Open House.

1:1 Technology Take Home Program

M.I.S. is a leader in the use of technology for the district.  We have been selected to pilot our students taking home their Chromebooks starting Trimester 2.  All students will be assigned their own Chromebook to use both at school and at home. The School-Parent Tech Team has been working this summer to create a plan of how this program will be implemented.  Please look for more information to be forthcoming as well as Parent Information Nights. Important:  Backpacks should be big enough for a Chromebook to fit inside of.

W.I.N. (Whatever I Need) Instructional Focus Time

Our daily schedule now includes a 60 minute block of time called W.I.N. Time.  During this time, students will receive additional support and enrichment in the areas of ELA and Math. These flexible groups will meet every day except Thursday.  There will be an alternating schedule by week for ELA and Math. Students will be grouped based on i-Ready, SRI, and standards assessments. W.I.N. will formally begin in September after teachers have had a chance to assess students to determine their needs.
